n8n vs Zapier vs Make for GTM automation

Published Last updated

The biggest difference between n8n, Zapier and Make is how they charge. n8n Cloud counts each full workflow run as one execution, however many steps it has. Zapier counts each successful action step as a task. Make counts credits, usually one per module action. For multi-step sales workflows that run often, that difference shapes the cost more than any feature.

A worked example

Take a 10-step lead routing workflow that runs 1,000 times a month: one trigger and nine actions. On n8n Cloud that is 1,000 executions. On Zapier it is up to 9,000 tasks if every action step runs. On Make it is roughly 10,000 credits, since each module action usually uses one. Check each vendor's current plan limits before you choose, because allowances and prices change.

Which fits which team

  • Zapier fits teams that want the widest library of prebuilt app connections and simple workflows that non-technical staff maintain.
  • Make fits teams that want visual scenarios with more branching than Zapier offers, at a lower entry price.
  • n8n fits teams with complex, high-volume workflows: multi-step routing, enrichment, AI steps and custom API calls, or teams that need to self-host so data stays in their own environment.

Why we build GTM systems in n8n

Lead routing, enrichment and CRM sync workflows tend to be long, branch often and run on every new lead. Execution-based pricing keeps costs predictable as they grow, and code nodes handle logic that prebuilt actions can't.

FAQ

Is n8n harder to use than Zapier?

It has a steeper learning curve for non-technical users, but more control for complex workflows.

Can n8n connect to HubSpot and Salesforce?

Yes, with native nodes for both, plus an HTTP node for any API.

Can we move existing Zaps to n8n?

Yes. Workflows are rebuilt rather than imported, so it's a good moment to clean up the logic.
